Migration of Majestri Application to Amazon Web Services

Majestri continues to grow, as more and more clubs find out about what the application does and sign up for themselves.

As a result, we have decided to move the entire application to a new home, one that will be able to cope with the growing size of the system and its services.

The biggest provider for such an environment is Amazon, and their platform is known as Amazon Web Services (AWS).

This document outlines what this means for you, and whether there is any prep you need to do in advance to assist us with this move.

When is the move happening?

At the moment we are aiming for a November 3rd 2024. We will keep you updated via the Control Room in the lead-up to let you know our time-lines.

How long will the system be unavailable during the move?

The secret to the success of a major migration like this is in the planning. We plan to do at least one "dry run", which will hopefully allow us to be fully aware of any issues we may encounter along the way.

We are going to be actually doing the move late on a Sunday night, with the hope that you'll all wake up the next morning and we'll be done. This means we are going to set aside a 12-hour window of down-time in the wee hours, and hope that we don't need that long.

What will be different?

If everything goes right, you shouldn't notice anything except a better-performing, snappier experience using the system.

We are moving into an environment with bigger machines and infrastructure, so we're hoping this will translate into a noticeable difference for everybody.

In addition, there are more protection measures out-of-the-box with AWS, so application downtime should be absolutely minimal.

What do I need to do?

If you don't currently use your club's domain name with Majestri then you have nothing to do. By this we mean that if you access your Majestri system and you have a "majestri.com.au" in the address bar, then we'll be sorting everything out for you.

If you use our Bring-Your-Own-Domain (BYOD) plan, and you use a domain name that you own to point to your Majestri site, then some changes are required. The good news is that they're not that onerous, and you also have the option of having us make the changes anytime from now if it looks a bit scary.

Please see here for your instructions on what is required.

Note: These changes need to be done before the migration. Post-migration, you will not be able to use your domain name with Majestri until these changes have taken effect.
