Club Domain Name
Using your own domain name with your Majestri site makes perfect sense. A strong domain name goes a long way to having a good brand out there on the Internet.
It is possible to wire up one or more of your purchased domain names to your Majestri site, but there are some things you need to be aware of, including an extra cost.
This article outlines everything you need to know, including how to make the change.

Buying a domain name for your club
If your club already has a domain name, just skip to the next section.
Majestri is not a domain registrar, so you cannot buy a domain name through us. There are some big organisations out there who do sell domain names such as VentraIP, CrazyDomains and WebCentral.
There's always a bit of confusion as to whether to go the .com or .org, or the .com.au or the .org.au. In our humble opinion, a registered Australian Not-For-Profit organisation always looks great with the .org.au. With either of the .au options, you will need an ABN to purchase the domain name.
Anyway, get that all sorted, and during the checkout process, you'll be asked what type of hosting you'd like to sign up for. Make sure you do not include "Web Hosting" as a plan component. Majestri does this part for you. Email is optional, but you will definitely need "DNS Hosting" if it is an optional component - some providers give it to you automatically, where some others just automatically bundle it is as part of the domain name.
Domain Management
Wherever you bought your domain, you should have been issued a username and password for that domain upon purchase. You should also have been given a link to a web-based site by your domain name registrar that allows you to log in with that username/password combination and enter a console that gives you control over every aspect of your domain. You need to be at this point in order to proceed.
Bring-Your-Own-Domain Plan
To use your own domain name with Majestri does come with an extra cost as outlined on our Pricing page.
topThere are a few extra tasks around configuring and security we need to do behind the scenes both initially and ongoing for your own domain name to be used. This is not part of what we do at our core (we are software developers) so we do have to put that slight extra charge on to cover our time and incurred costs.
The option to use your own domain name is known as our Bring-Your-Own-Domain (BYOD) plan.
Connected Domains
Once we've done our initial setup, we will point you towards our Connected Domains screen. This screen shows a set of entries that need to appear in your DNS Zone File. These are changes that need to be made in your Domain Name Console, the credentials for which were issued when you purchased your domain name.
When you first see this screen, all the entries will be orange, indicating that the changes have not yet been made. Once the DNS changes are made, the entries will all appear green as shown below.
DNS Zone Changes
The Connected Domains screen shows you the entries that need to be appear in your DNS Zone File. If you're not technical, it may look a little overwhelming.
Majestri Help
If you would like us to make these changes on your behalf, please make sure all details about your Domain Management Console are entered into the Service Provider Register (Administration tab in the Control Room) and then send an email to support@majestri.com.au requesting our assistance.
We will use the credentials in the Service Provider Register to log into your console and make these DNS changes for you. Some providers now require two-factor authentication (2FA) so we may need to get in touch if verification codes are sent to your phone as part of effecting the changes.
There is no charge for us to do this job for you. We know DNS isn't the easiest protocol to understand and are happy to help as part of the service.
AWS Migration
We are moving our entire application to the AWS platform (see here).
All clubs currently using their own domain name must apply the DNS settings shown on the Connected Domains screen before the move.
Check it's worked
Now when you change those settings, the Internet takes a little while to catch up. Heaps of machines all around the globe need to be told that your club domain can now be found at a new place. The general rule of thumb is that it takes around 24 hours. During this time, you may open your browser and enter your club domain, and it still may not have updated. You start to doubt yourself and wonder if you entered it all correctly. You can tell we've been there before too, hey?
Well, there's a great place on the Internet to check it out. It is called DNSWatch. Take a look at the screenshot below:
After you've entered your club domain name on the first page and hit Resolve, you'll see a technical trace of the DNSWatch service finding where the domain name points.
If the trace eventually comes across the Name Server information that you entered to point to Majestri, then, in the words of Dr. Nick Riviera, "the operation was a complete success."
